Maria Mikola Bio:

Maria had been a competitive gymnast in her high school years. After a knee injury her career came to an abrupt end. In her college days she took up competitive trampoline. After graduating from college, windsurfing became her past time but could only be active in this sport for the summer months. She had been introduced to weight training in her high school days briefly but never really pursued it until she decided she needed something to do in the winter months while away from windsurfing. Maria’s bodybuilding career began in 1997 when she moved to Michigan to take a gymnastics head coaching position. The owner of the gym Maria weight trained at, took notice of her and convinced her to try a competition. She knew nothing about the sport other then the photos she saw in magazines. She already sported a fitness physique but there was no fitness competition at the time, so bodybuilding it was. Maria has been very successful in bodybuilding with many overall titles in the States and Canada while maintaining an all natural physique. She has also represented Canada in 2003 at the IFBB Women’s World Championships where she placed 9th in the middleweight class and was the top ranked bodybuilder from North America that year. In the past year, Maria has earned 4 pro cards from 4 different natural federations both in Canada and the United States . Recently Maria won the heavyweight class at the 2007 CBBF National World Qualifier and has qualified for the Canadian Team once again to represent Canada at the 2007 IFBB Women’s World Championships where she hopes to improve on her placing since 2003.
